  1. Now I really want to see this! I was thinking the same thing you said Rob...nowadays we'd just look at this as another take, but in 1998 it was THE take!!! And there was a lot riding on the film. Even while it was in production, it sounded like a train wreck, and Burton had kind of become...Burton by that point. Well, just look at Batman Returns. I didn't want him "over-Burtonizing" Superman.

But now...even DC can't get Superman right in the comics, so all of this seems downright quaint and traditional! So I'm interested in seeing what the creatives have to say on this.

Jon Peters...man you were cracking me up. He always did come across as the prototypical Hollywood producer, and that snippet of his phone call could have come out of any parody from the 1930s to today. His old partner, Peter Guber, always seemed the more sincere of the two, but I don't think he was involved with this film.

Thanks to you and Tim for recommending this. It's on my "to watch" list!

  2. Great episode, Rob and Tim! I've wanted to see this movie for a while after hearing Jon Schnepp talk about the project, and from hearing Kevin Smith's stories from "An Evening With Kevin Smith".

Your description of the production art, design, and the Brainiac ideas have me very intrigued, but until I actually see the movie, I can't imagine a Nicolas Cage Superman movie as anything but a bullet dodged.
