The animated star trek episodes are not considered canon. Gene Roddenberry didn't rely like them and said that if he had known that they were going to do more live action later he would have done them different or not at all.
ReplyDeleteThey aren't canon anymore, but aspects of them are. I think Kirk's middle name being "Tiberius" comes from the animated series, for instance. At one time, they were considered part of continuity, but have been disregarded for some reason over time. I'm not really sure why.
ReplyDeleteRoddenberry didn't like any of the movies besides TMP, but they are still canon. :-)

True aspects of them are but that is because they were used in different shows and movies so became so. I think basically they weren't taken that seriously when made is why even the networks will not view them really as canon. Cartoons weren't really view as serious works then.
