Thanks for listening! That's a Wrap!
Never saw this film, but it sounds...interesting. I watched The Hunger for the first time a few years ago, and man I really regret missing that in my teen years. :-)
ReplyDeleteBefore that, my only real exposure to Bowie the actor was Labyrinth and The Prestige. I would agree with David that his presence did elevate those projects. He just had that...IT quality. Whether you were a huge fan or not, he was always interesting. You either have it or you don't, and he had it in spades.
Chris
I'm glad you went with this rather than the more obvious Labyrinth (even if I'd seen it more recently). I'd say its most obvious successor, premise-wise, is Starman. Tone-wise, how about the Flaming Lips' Christmas on Mars?
ReplyDeleteI can't be unhappy with Dylan in films so long as I get to watch (and listen to) Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.
And I feel you, David. Don't be ashamed of your emotionality here. Not that Bowie's death affected me this much, but I'll still tear up at the thought of Elisabeth Sladen's, or more recently, Leonard Nimoy's. There are artists who touched our lives and whose work is intimately connected with our identities.
Great podcast guys.
Don't know about the Kelly show, but Grace Kelly will appear on my Grace on Grace podcast, along with Grace Jones, computer scientist Grace Hopper, and Grace Sherwood, the Witch of Pungo (c. 1660 – c. 1740).
